Continuing professional development: 

Regional Network Most areas are represented by county or regional groups. Contact the honorary secretary for details.

Peer support/mentorship County or regional officers will give support, or members can apply to the Executive Committee for help. Executive members can be contacted by phone, letter or email. Tutor support is available to those undertaking the Hippotherapy Course.

Publications A newsletter is issued two to three times a year. New members receive a copy of the ACPTR (1999), Standards of Physiotherapy Practice in Therapeutic Riding, CSP. The honorary secretary holds a list of useful addresses and contact details.

Suggested reading list A reading list is supplied to members attending courses and is included in the members' handbook.

A member of the ACPTR Executive committee has responsibility for Research and can be contacted through the secretary.

Conferences and study days The group holds a biannual conference and AGM and a national study day is held in the year between conferences. A number of additional study days and practical workshops are also run.

Formal courses offered/recommended Hippotherapy Course run annually by ACPTR in two parts: Equine moduleand Hippotherapy module.  Applicants are required to register for the complete course.

Links with other groups/organisations ACPTR links with other Professional Networks, RDA and FRDI/HETI.  Members are involved in projects in the UK and with other countries.

Promoting research: 

Promoting research awareness

Participants in the Hippotherapy course produce case studies which show evidence of in-depth research.  A number of members are engaged in larger scale research projects.

Research/education awards Limited funding is available to assist lecturers who are invited to speak overseas.

Who can join: 

The following categories of membership are available: Full membership is open to all Chartered Physiotherapists. Associate membership, which is open to occupational therapists and members of other professional bodies involved with therapeutic riding. Student membership which offers reduced rates. Overseas membership for physiotherapists working in this field in other countries.

Expectations of members: 

Members are expected to attend training days and workshops to keep informed of developments within the field of therapeutic riding and maintain standards of practice. They should also be prepared to serve as county or regional officers and committee members, if selected and take part in the work of the group.
