Northern Ireland physiotherapy staff angry and upset over health minister’s pay award

CSP press release published on 12 January 2016

Responding to the decision by the Minister for Health, Simon Hamilton MLA, to impose a one per cent cent across the board pay uplift for all Agenda for Change (AfC) health and social care staff, Claire Ronald, CSP senior negotiating officer for CSP Northern Ireland said:

“The imposition of a one off payment on pay leaves physiotherapy staff in Northern Ireland worse off than their colleagues in the other parts of the UK.

"This decision once again disregards the recommendations made by the UK Pay Review Body and shows a complete contempt for the very people who have somehow continued to deliver outstanding patient services in Northern Irelands under extremely difficult circumstances.

"At a time when the health service in Northern is undergoing further change and staff are being asked to work harder than ever to transform how services are delivered this decision will further demoralise and demotivate physiotherapy staff.

"In the run up to the Assembly elections in May 2016 CSP members, will no doubt, reflect on the implications of the imposition of this award.

"The CSP will now consult with members and other trade union colleagues in Northern Ireland to consider further action they might be prepared to take to challenge this decision.”
