‘The Painful Truth’ report outlines the experiences of more than 2,500 people in Northern Ireland who live with chronic pain, covering diagnosis, information, treatment and care and how they could be better supported in the future.
Tom Sullivan, Policy Officer for the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy Northern Ireland said:
“Physiotherapy is proven to be an effective treatment for chronic pain that enables people to live full and active lives and should be available to all those who need it. The variations in the time taken to access physiotherapy and other pain services across Northern Ireland highlighted in the report need to be urgently addressed.
“The CSP welcomes the recommendations contained in the Painful Truth report and supports calls for the development of a strategic framework for pain services across Northern Ireland so that those with chronic pain can benefit from the delivery of a responsive, innovative and multi-disciplinary pain service in the future.”
