CSP press release published on 12 June 2009

The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy's response to Secretary of State for Health’s speech at the NHS Confederation Conference

In response to the Secretary of State for Health’s speech at the NHS Confederation Conference, given at lunchtime today, Chief Executive of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP), Phil Gray said: "Physiotherapists have a vital role to play in encouraging everyone to increase their levels of physical activity in order to improve their health and quality of life. The CSP therefore welcomes the Secretary of State for Health’s pledge to increase levels of physical activity across the country and is encouraged by his suggestion to introduce free swimming. Furthermore, the CSP fully supports the commitment made to prioritise the prevention of ill health. In particular, we are impressed with the emphasis on the prevention of falls among older people, in which physiotherapists have a crucial part to play." Ends
