CSP member Nikki Robinson started the Holisticare practice in 2006, working at home just two mornings a week. Fast forward to 2017, and she operates a purpose-built treatment centre, employs four MR specialists and has clients who travel from across the UK to receive specialist care.

Holisticare was a finalist in the small business of the year category and winner of the judges’ award. It was chosen from all the finalists as the business that the judges felt had great potential and was the ‘one to watch’ for 2017.

Ms Robinson said she would recommend other physio practices to enter business competitions.

‘The first time I did it, a business coach helped me to answer the questions on the entry form,’ she said. ‘As physiotherapists, we are not used to blowing our own trumpets and the coach guided me about what the judges were looking for.

‘Business awards always want evidence. This time I gave testimonials, a business plan and proof that we were involved in the community. For instance, about how we help treat homeless people, sponsor a 14-year old athlete who is now competing nationally, provide cover for local sports days and raise money for the local hospice.’

Since receiving this award on 30 June, Ms Robinson learned she is a finalist in both the best business and the most inspiring business woman categories of the National Business Women awards. The winners will be announced at an event in Hertfordshire on 30 October.
