Ms Brown, a clinical specialist physio at St Peter’s Hospital in Maldon, Essex, was presented with her award at London’s Dorchester Hotel. The award organisers, national charity the Stroke Association, said it recognised her exceptional service in providing stroke care and prevention.

‘I felt thrilled and delighted to receive the award,’ said Ms Brown. ‘It has boosted the whole team, who have been really excited by it too.’

‘And I was honoured to have five members of Team GB to present the award. So I got to hold a gold and silver Olympic medal.’

Ms Brown qualified as a physiotherapist in 1962. She has worked full-time at St Peter’s for 17 years, seven years with neuro outpatients and the past 10 years with stroke patients.

She works as part of a multidisciplinary team employed by Provide, a social enterprise which runs community services across Essex, Cambridgeshire and some London boroughs.

‘I work with a fantastic team of people,’ Ms Brown added. ‘They are more than therapists, there are nurses, dieticians, speech therapists and occupational therapists.’
