One You campaign urges adults to adopt healthy behaviours

9 March 2016 - 12:58pm

Public Health England (PHE) has launched a national campaign to encourage adults, particularly those in middle age, to make small lifestyle changes that will improve their health and wellbeing.

One You campaign urges adults to change their behaviour

The campaign promotes health enhancing behaviours for adults

The One You campaign says that about 40 per cent of all deaths in England are related to behavioural choices and that NHS England currently spends more than £11 billion a year treating illnesses caused by the effects of diet, inactivity, smoking and drinking alcohol.

As a result the campaign promotes seven health enhancing behaviours: eating well, sleeping well, being smoke free, only drinking in moderation, getting health checks, reducing stress and exercising.

It also includes an online health quiz, health promoting apps and links to national resources on NHS choices.

In addition, PHE have developed a ‘conversation starter’ leaflet for health professionals, which is designed to aid conversations about the seven behaviours during appointments with patients.

CSP professional adviser Stuart Palma told Frontline: ‘The CSP fully supports the One You campaign. It is a useful resource that could help physiotherapists to start conversations about healthy lifestyles with their patients. It is also an excellent tool to signpost patients to.’
