11 June 2015 - 4:32pm

More than 300 CSP members have registered to get their colleagues, patients and the public moving on the 12 June for Workout at Work Day.

Record number of CSP members register for Workout at Work Day

Physiotherapists from Northern Ireland’s Southern Trust led a work out session for members of the CSP’s Northern Ireland Board earlier this week

‘This is our fifth year running and we’ve received a record number of registrations – we’re thrilled about it,’ said Stefani Lanteri, the CSP press officer who’s been busy coordinating events.

At St George’s Hospital in south London CSP member Rachel Moses will help with the day’s events. These include a duathlon challenge, in which participants complete sessions on a running machine and a static exercise bike. In addition, a weightless running machine will be in use in the foyer as part of rehab for patients with spinal injuries and trauma, and a group exercise class will be held at lunchtime.

‘And we have some local celebrities attending – footballers from AFC Wimbledon,’ she said.

Physio Deborah Bancroft, who is based with Pennine Acute Hospitals Trust in West Yorkshire, said fitness classes will take place over lunchtime on two sites: Bury town hall and the trust. All staff from Bury Council and trust will be encouraged to join in, enjoy themselves and stay healthy.

‘We will have physios running advice sessions at the venues, as well as stands at entrances to promote the day to the general public,’ she said.

Over at Wexham Park Hospital in Slough, Berkshire, physiotherapist Natalie Mansford will help run two Pilates sessions – one before work and the second over lunchtime. A yoga session will mark the end of the working day.

Ms Mansford said: ‘We have had posters and flyers made by our communications department and distributed around the hospital, along with updates in our trust’s newsletter to try and attract as many staff members as possible.’

Elsewhere in the UK, an assortment of other events will be held on 12 June, including belly dancing, hula hooping, Tai Chi and boxercise.

And CSP member Joanna Breeze is showing support for Workout at Work Day all the way from Australia. She will run yoga and Pilates sessions at St Luke’s Care, a charitable organisation in Sydney.

‘We have had 10 other organisations that were also keen to take part,’ said Ms Lanteri. They included BBC Scotland and Calderdale Council in West Yorkshire. Publishing giant Elsevier will hold events in south London and Kidlington, Oxfordshire .
