Rehab training tool wins ADAPT award

9 October 2013 - 11:18am

Fiona Lindsay, a senior physiotherapist and the director of Edinburgh-based Developing Physio, has been named as the winner of an award from the CSP professional network Chartered Physiotherapists in International Health and Development (ADAPT).

Fiona Lindsay, director of Edinburgh-based Developing Physio, will receive £500

Her award was presented at a study day for ADAPT members, held in London on 27 September 2013. She will receive £500 to help develop a tool intended to teach rehabilitation skills to communities, typically within developing countries, which lack access to rehabilitation services.

‘We are currently inviting all qualified physiotherapists to get involved in helping us to write teaching modules,’ said Mrs Lindsay.

‘So if you have a special interest in any area of physio, please do get in touch as we would love to hear from you.’

Mrs Lindsay said the tool will use problem-based pictures and flow diagrams to help local ‘rehabilitation workers’ learn about anatomy, physiology, pathology, assessment, differential diagnosis, treatment and contraindications.

The tool is intended to act as a constant guide that can be used by rehabilitation workers long after physiotherapists have left the community.

Physiotherapists interested in contributing to the tool can contact Mrs Lindsay by emailing:

The ADAPT award was launched earlier in 2013 to encourage members to develop materials that contribute to the development of effective physiotherapy services worldwide.
