Society to look at implications of an independent Scotland

28 February 2013 - 9:48am

The CSP will consider creating a working party to look at the implications for physiotherapists if Scottish voters choose independence in the referendum in October 2014.

File 113814CSP chief executive Phil Gray is due to tell next week's Annual Representative Conference next week that CSP council will be asked to set up the working group to develop a draft policy position on professional, employment, regulatory, and CSP organisational issues that could arise following Scottish independence from the UK. This working party will report back to Council in September.

The society would also aim to provide information and practical proposals for members in Scotland, such as

  • implications for pay and conditions negotiations
  • CSP stewards arrangements
  • access to CSP services.

However, Scottish members will not be advised on how to vote in the referendum on independence, which is due to take place in the autumn of 2014.
