Mr Smith, 23, who won two medals at this year’s Olympics – a silver on the pommel horse and a bronze in a team event – danced to the top with partner Flavia Cacace in the BBC show.
Physiotherapy was 'a secret'
Mr Smith said afterwards that he’d been having treatment for back pain before the show. Prior to the final he had performed with a heat pack on his back and was secretly having physiotherapy right up until the show began, he told the Mail on Sunday.
'I was in pain during the week but it was manageable because I have been having physio. Luckily it didn't hurt too much on the night.’
Physio Kevin Lidlow from The Third Space health and fitness club in Soho, London, had provided maintenance to Mr Smith’s back, according to Mr Smith’s press agent.
A spokesperson at the club said: ‘We’re very excited that Louis won.’
