Minister shows the way on Workout at Work Day

20 June 2012 - 5:40pm

Members of the Northern Ireland Assembly came out in force on 19 June to show their support for the CSP’s Workout at Work Day (WOWD).

File 107243Members of the legislative assembly (MLAs) from various political parties took part in a brisk walk around the grounds of the parliament buildings at Stormont in Belfast.

The event was held to endorse WOWD, which aims to promote physical and mental health and wellbeing in the workplace.

CSP members were joined by the Minister for Justice David Ford and both the chair and vice chair of the assembly health committee.

Setting the pace

Health minister Edwin Poots also supported the WOWD event, enthusiastically taking the lead and setting the pace for the walk.

Physiotherapist Brendan McConaghy took the MLAs through some warm-up exercises before the walk.

‘We had intended to complete a two-mile walk but the minster proceeded to take the group on an extended tour around some of the more scenic areas in the Stormont Estate,’ said Mr McConaghy.

‘We were very impressed with the time and effort he gave in supporting this event, and with his stamina in going the extra mile to show his support.’
