CSP is one of several major healthcare bodies backing the initiative, which looks to promote a more active lifestyle for the almost eight million people in the UK aged over 55 who have long-term health conditions.

Throughout the year the campaign will promote and highlight how physical activity can make a difference to health and wellbeing. It will also offer support to the friends, families and carers of people with long-term conditions in being more active.

Other healthcare organisations backing Your Personal Best include the Royal College of General Practitioners, Royal College of Nursing and British Lung Foundation.

‘Vital work’ of physiotherapists

Chair of CSP council Helena Johnson said Your Personal Best could be harnessed to highlight how everyday activities and physical activity can improve quality of life for patients.

‘The campaign provides an excellent opportunity to raise awareness of the vital work physiotherapists do to support patients with long-term health conditions,’ Dr Johnson said.

Your Personal Best is led by GlaxoSmithKline, official laboratory services provider for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, in association with NHS London.

The campaign website provides general information to the public in addition to online resources aimed specifically at those working in healthcare to help them motivate patients.
