Sarah Tunnicliffe (right), senior physiotherapist at Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge, managed to persuade Sebastian Coe, Helen Worth, who plays Gail Potter in Coronation Street, and footballer Nigel Reo-Coker to feature in the DVD, which is now given to all patients receiving chemotherapy and radiotherapy at the hospital.
Ms Tunnicliffe, who developed the DVD and booklet in her own time, set up the project after seeing evidence that cancer patients undergoing treatment could benefit from exercise, even though they are often advised to rest.
Patient support
‘Fortunately we had great support from our patients, who held fundraising events and contributed the money raised to help the project,’ she said.
‘We also managed to get the booklet published for free as a friend did it for us.’
There has been interest from other trusts in providing similar publications. Ms Tunnicliffe said physios are welcome to contact her if they are interested in using her materials; email Sarah.tunnicliffe@addenbrookes.nhs.uk
