Equality Network Day 21 October 2008

Stewards, managers, and members of diversity networks are invited to a half-day equality event hosted by the CSP's BME, disabled members and LGBT networks.

Members of equality networks from other allied health profession unions are welcome to attend. It will look at issues that can arise in the course of clinical practice, for example:

  • Cultural sensitivities eg around dress, and chaperoning
  • Appropriate physical contact with patients
  • Awareness and sensitivity around LGBT patients and their partners
  • Issues that can arise for visually impaired physiotherapists around therapeutic handling
  • How to respond to patients who demand to be seen by physiotherapists of a particular race or gender

A panel of speakers includes:

  • Mel Stewart, convenor of the CSP BME network
  • Cliff Towson, convenor of the CSP disabled members’network

The session will relate directly to core dimension 6 of the KSF Framework. A certificate of attendance will be issued to CSP members.   In the afternoon, members of the BME, LGBT and disabled member network groups will have time to meet separately to consider items of specific interest to their groups.
