26 October 2010 - 2:20pm

The CSP’s policy officer for Wales Philippa Ford has been asked by the Welsh assembly government to lead a project that will set standards for healthcare support workers.

Philippa Ford, CSP

policy officer for Wales

She was invited to chair the consultation group by health minister Edwina Hart.

Philippa Ford described her appointment as ‘a terrific privilege’ and said: ‘It’s a great honour, both for me and the CSP.’

Launched on 18 October the consultation focuses on the needs of support workers and assistant practitioners in Wales.

The project runs for one month and support workers are being encouraged to submit their views.

Code of Conduct

Responses will be used to help develop a ‘Code of conduct’ for support workers and a ‘Code of practice’ for employers.

The public will also be informed about what standards they can expect.

‘This initiative offers huge potential for the future development and support of staff,’ Philippa Ford said.

CSP members are encouraged to send their views to Philippa Ford and Peter Finch (fordp@csp.org.uk and finchp@csp.org.uk).
