CSP treks for Amnesty

26 August 2010 - 4:30pm

To highlight the CSP’s link with Amnesty International, and to raise money for the human rights charity, the CSP’s Peter Finch has completed a gruelling trek across the mountains of Iceland in the shadows of the Eyjafjallajokull volcano.

The assistant director of employment relations (right) aims to raise £3,000 for Amnesty and is just £300 away from his target.

Trekking with charity events organisers Skyline, Peter joined 13 others on the seven-day adventure, navigating volcanic lava fields, glaciers and hot springs.

He trained extensively for the challenge, using the Brecon Beacons in Wales to prepare for the climbs.

'Physical test'

'I was well prepared for the trek,' Peter said, 'but even so it was a big physical test and getting up the mountains was particularly challenging'.

'The camping and carrying tents and equipment was also not easy - and it always rained when we were setting up camp,' he added. However, Peter said he would be keen to face another similar physical challenge. ‘I really enjoyed the whole experience, and I would certainly encourage others to get involved in events such as this’.
You can donate to Peter’s fundraising effort on his page of the JustGiving website (see link below).
