Move For Health
The CSP has developed a new campaign entitled Move For Health, which is to be launched in July 2009 as part of CSP's contribution to the high profile Government campaign, Change4Life.
Having become a partner in the Change4Life campaign when it launched in January, the CSP's new campaign will complement the Government initiative by promoting messages about physical activity and the expert advice that physiotherapists can provide on exercise and movement.
Move For Health aims to encourage the public to take part in appropriate exercise to improve overall health and wellbeing and is expected to run for the next two years.
During the launch phase, Change4Life has concentrated on showing how the convenience of modern life is making it harder for people to maintain a healthy lifestyle and that without change, the health of future generations will be threatened.
Obesity crisis
The CSP will support this focus by working to help families to improve their fitness in an attempt to halt the growing obesity crisis and prevent health problems associated with poor diet and an inactive lifestyle. In September we will target parents and schools with messages about how to get children more active. During the second phase CSP will address the fitness needs of older people.
Look out for more information in April and May about how you can sign up to Move For Health and support the campaign in your local area.
Change4Life
Public Health Minister Dawn Primarolo said: "Change4Life has a critical ambition. We are trying to create a lifestyle revolution on a huge scale - something which no Government has attempted before.
"The extent of the obesity problem demands an ambitious and innovative approach that has not been tried before. We have adopted ideas from successful movements such as Make Poverty History and Comic Relief which involves a wide range of partners, local organisations, commercial companies, charities and, of course, millions of people.
"Change4Life is supportive, informative and reassuring - it's not about telling families what to do and what to eat. We want families to engage with the campaign and understand that obesity is not someone else's problem - it's all of our problem." As a national partner of Change4Life, CSP joins many other charities, organisations and companies who are backing the campaign with projects and events to improve health and fitness."
