National NHS Staff Survey 2004

5 July 2005 - 9:10am

Between October and December 2004, over 217,000 staff in 572 trusts and 26 strategic health authorities (SHAs) in England took part in the second national NHS staff survey.

Over half of NHS staff surveyed by the Healthcare Commission say that they regularly work unpaid overtime. One in four staff say that they have been harassed or abused by patients or their relatives in the last year. Despite this, NHS staff say that they are generally satisfied with their work and committed to providing the best possible care for patients.
