Wake Up to Trade Justice & Make Poverty History

7 March 2005 - 8:10am

A night-long vigil will be held at Westminster on 15 April in support of the Make Poverty History campaign. Find out more here...

Make Poverty History is a coalition of trade unions, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), faith groups and others campaigning for trade justice, more and better aid and the cancellation of unpayable poor-country debt.

On 15 April thousands of people are expected to attend a vigil - 'Wake Up to Trade Justice' - at Whitehall and Westminster to support the campaign. The protest, to run from 10pm Friday 15 April to 8am Saturday 16 April, will feature music and dance, art and a dawn procession past Downing Street.

The protest is calling on the UK Government to stop making poor countries open their markets up to unfair trade and to respect the right to decide on trade policies that would help end poverty and protect the environment.

The event is part of a Global Week of Action for trade justice with events and activities in over 70 countries. Find out more from:
