After a well-earned break it's worth reflecting on some of the successes for the CSP and the profession in 2011.

The society has continued to grow, beginning 2012 with more than 51,000 members. The membership now includes an extra 8,000 full practising members since 2010. This means that 95% of UK physios are members of the CSP, which is higher than any other UK membership organisation...

What an interesting time to become Chair of Council. In just one busy week I enjoyed the CSP Awards, represented the profession at the NHS Alliance conference, and joined the 30 November day of action.

At the CSP Awards we celebrated our new Fellows and Distinguished Service award-winners in practice, education, research and management along with the talented winners of the Awards for...

On Saturday I was proud to hand over my chain of office to the newly elected Chair of Council, Helena Johnson.

Over the last two years Helena has been brilliant in supporting me and carrying out her role as vice-chair. She has a great sense of humour, so we’ve had a lot of fun too.

I arrived at the Liberal Democrats’ conference and met CSP treasurer Sue England, who had just bumped into Hugh Grant. Apparently the eyes are very blue.

Hugh is speaking at every party conference as part of a fringe event on the phone hacking scandal.

I missed his talk in Birmingham but heard Chief Secretary to the Treasury Danny Alexander speaking on pensions.

    I was also...

This week we had a walk, a workout and a vigil, with the third reading of the Health and Social Care bill marked by the health unions with a candlelit vigil outside the House of Commons.

The event was to raise public awareness and...

Teams from CSP Council and Bedford Row’s Practice and Development Function provided early inspiration for the Workout at Work campaign with success at the London triathlon.

For Council there was Matthew Wyatt, Kate Leighton and Fiona Cramp and for P&D Alex Lipman, Paul Marks and...

It was a dry and bright Tuesday for the lucky CSP representatives who attended the Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace.

The event is dedicated to charities and organisations that contribute to public life, and choosing who is invited is one of my many delightful duties as chair of council.

As you can see, this year's four look splendid, and their contributions to the CSP have...

  • 30 Jun 2011 - 4:42pm

More than 5,000 physiotherapists from over 100 countries gathered in Amsterdam for last week's World Confederation for Physical Therapy congress.

The event was preceded by the 60th general meeting of WCPT. The very first meeting was held in 1951, on 8...

It was goodbye and good luck to our third year students at Coventry this week, who like many others, now begin the transition from academic to professional lives.

With the current changes to the health and social care landscape, graduating students face a more uncertain future than ever. CSP members can download a new paper entitled...
