Intermediate Care criteria

We are in the process of reviewing our admission criteria to Intermediate Care which currently is: Over 18 and from the area. This leaves us open to inappropriate referrals and admissions and difficulties with discharging patients leading to an increase in lenght of stay. Our average length of stay in our 36 bed inpatient unit is 5.4 weeks, the longest being 4 and a half months!

My questions are:

What is your referral and admission criteria?

What is your average length of stay?

What is your inpatient capacity and do you have allocated beds for step ups?

Thanks for your help
