Comment: Welcome, Karen

It’s all change at the CSP this week, as Karen Middleton takes the helm, says Ian A McMillan

For the first time, the society has a woman and a physiotherapist as its chief executive.

Ms Middleton brings many attributes to the post – an in-depth knowledge of how the political machine works, experience as a leader, lecturer and public speaker, and a background as a CSP steward, to name but a few.

You can find out more about what makes Ms Middleton tick and her aspirations for the profession.

Elsewhere in this issue you can read about another woman physiotherapist who is making her mark.

Frances Hunt displayed remarkable leadership qualities during a period of change at her hospital.

She was nominated by her colleagues who acknowledged both her inclusive management style and her encouragement of others.

As they noted in their nomination: ‘Many of us would not be in leadership and innovation roles ourselves without her support and vision.’

Why not apply for this year’s CSP awards?  Details will be available from 4 April.    To find out more, visit: CSP Awards
