Wednesday 30 November was the day CSP members said ‘Enough is enough’.
The thousands who rallied in town centres, picketed workplaces and marched through cities made it clear: they’re not prepared to work longer, earn less and pay more.
Members in the NHS and associated social enterprises were among two million public sector workers who went on strike to defend their pensions.
More than 400 CSP members joined a rally in Manchester, 180 in Cardiff and 200 in Bristol. Wherever they took part, CSP members were prominent, appearing on radio and television and in newspapers.
London regional steward Vickie Yeardley was interviewed by the BBC with Lesley Mercer, CSP director of employment relations.
Across the UK, members started the day on freezing picket lines in the dark. The public showed support by sounding car horns and bringing tea and food.
Lewisham strikers enjoyed a member’s homemade cake iced with tiny CSP striker figures. Barnsley Hospital management sent refreshments out to the picket line.
Heavy rain failed to dampen members’ resolve; when rain ‘lashed it down’ on the harbourside at Whitehaven, the marchers dried out their placards and carried on.
A very big thank you to all CSP members who sent in their reports and photos of the day.
