Society introduces new professional code

Physiotherapists defending their patients’ interests in the face of cuts and NHS reorganisation will soon benefit from a new CSP code of professional behaviour.

The new CSP code, being published this month, sets out positive expectations of all members. It should support members in delivering an effective service, and striving to achieve excellence in their practice.

These are two of four principles contained in the new CSP Code of Professional Values and Behaviour, which is not a ‘rule book’, but aims to help members take the tough decisions they face in practice.

CSP assistant director of practice and development, Sally Gosling, said the code would support members in ‘exercising their duty of care’.

‘This is likely to be of increasing importance in the context of growing financial pressure and competition,’ she said.

A copy of the new code is being distributed with this issue of Frontline. See also ‘Peak Practice’ page 24.
