Self-referral resource

A dedicated section on physiotherapy self-referral has been launched on the CSP website, to link with the six Department of Health pilot self-referral schemes in England.

The section will have a link for access to marketing material, as well as guidance on how to collect patient data and feedback, and how to calculate patient referral rates.

CSP self-referral lead Ruth ten Hove said: 'The benefits of patients being able to refer themselves directly to physiotherapists are well known and well documented.

'In view of this we are launching a dedicated area on the CSP website, which will enable physiotherapists not only to understand more about the context of self-referral, but will also provide useful resources for services which are thinking of setting up self-referral.'

The site has practical tips from established schemes, and a facility to link people who would like to become mentors to self-referral beginners.

There is also advice on marketing the model to commissioners and evidence on the cost and clinical effectiveness of the schemes.
