Specialist physiotherapist Catriona Futter explained the role of physiotherapy following breast reconstruction in a recent BBC documentary.

My New Breast, screened on 14 September on BBC2, followed the stories of three women having surgery for breast cancer. Catriona Futter, who is part of a multidisciplinary team at the Canniesburn plastic surgery unit at Glasgow Royal Infirmary, was interviewed on how she supports patients before and after reconstructive surgery.

‘It is a very honest and moving film, showing the impact of breast cancer on the individual and their family,’ she said. ‘I had a small part in the documentary but it was a chance to promote what physiotherapists do in empowering patients to get back functionality.

‘It is a team approach and the public wouldn’t necessarily know how physiotherapists work with patients to ensure they are doing exercises to regain their movement.’
