Screen break for two trophy-hunting physios

Two physios from north east England missed out on £5,000 because they didn’t know enough about the classic televsion comedy series Last of the Summer Wine.

David Metcalfe and Paul Sewell, who work at University Hospital North Durham, won through to the final round of the BBC quiz show Pointless, where they had the chance to play for £5,250.

‘Last of the Summer Wine isn’t something that I watch, so we were just throwing out random names of actors,’ Mr Metcalfe said.

Despite missing out on the money, Mr Metcalfe and Mr Sewell, who are both musculoskeletal physios, won a trophy.

The pair are no strangers to TV game shows, having previously appeared on Bargain Hunt, and won, after securing £63 for their items.

Stuart Paterson, a director of Crystal Palace Physiotherapy and Sports Injury Centre in south London, appeared on the BBC’s technology show Click, explaining how to avoid repetitive strain injury from mobile phones, tablets and other heavily-used gadgets.

He has taken part in occasional TV programmes before, and said: ‘I think it’s good for the profession for physios to get out there and take these kind of opportunities’.
