Roadshow pushes East Enders ‘back on track’

A physiotherapist is taking part in a roadshow to help her local community get ‘back on track’ by promoting awareness of inflammatory back pain.

Rebecca Adshead, a specialist ankylosing spondylitis physiotherapist at Whipps Cross Hospital in east London, has joined forces with consultant rheumatologists Hasan Tahir and Simon Donnelly to deliver the awareness-raising show.

The roadshow has visited gyms in east London and Essex. Commenting on the roadshow’s first sessions, Mrs Adshead said it had been a very ‘promising start’.

‘It was encouraging to see so many young adults engaging with the rheumatology team and asking advice about their back pain,’ Mrs Adshead told Frontline.

‘The team identified some people with inflammatory back pain and offered advice and a letter to take to their GP recommending referral to our early inflammatory back pain service.’

The roadshow is part of a wider inflammatory back pain campaign that is being run by Barts Health NHS Trust and the National Ankolysing Spondylitis Society (NASS).
