Physio gets military commendation

A physiotherapist has been awarded a special commendation in recognition of her work with military patients.

Tammy Lea, senior physiotherapist in the critical care unit at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, received her award from Air Vice Marshall Paul Evans.

‘It is an honour to receive recognition, both for me personally and for the rest of the physiotherapy team,’ said Ms Lea.

‘It has been a privilege to work with severely injured service personnel and to have witnessed, throughout their early rehabilitation, the determination and desire to achieve their goals in spite of sometimes profound disability.’

The hospital is home to the Royal Centre for Defence Medicine and is where most soldiers are repatriated following injury.

Catherine Elliott, head of physiotherapy services at the hospital, said they were immensely proud of Ms Lea’s achievement.

‘The range of injuries she has witnessed present particular physical and emotional challenges for physiotherapists, and she has worked beyond expectation in the support she has given to patients with devastating and life changing injuries,’ said Ms Elliott.
