Patients need to support physio prescribing plans

Independent prescribing would be good news for patients, but they must be encouraged to respond to the government consultation, which ends on 8 December, said Pip White, CSP professional adviser.

‘We have an opportunity to take a positive step forward in what are undeniably challenging and uncertain times,’ she said.

Physios, along with podiatrists, will be the first allied health professionals to gain prescribing status if the consultation comes out in their favour.

‘It adds value, and gives the profession something extra that we can give back to our patients,’ said Ms White.

‘The most important voice in the consultation will be the patient groups, if you could ask just three people and maybe a patient – if it’s appropriate – to respond, that would be great.’

Background information was available to help members at the CSP’s website, she added.
