Parkinson’s audit 2012 seeks physiotherapy input

Physiotherapists interested in taking part in the 2012 audit on services for patients with Parkinson’s should now register their details.

The National Parkinson’s Audit is led by charity Parkinson’s UK and will be held over five months, from 1 July to 30 November.

It is open to all healthcare professionals working with people with Parkinson’s, including neurologists, geriatricians, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists and physiotherapists.

The audit will assess how well services are meeting the needs of people with Parkinson’s and allow participants to evaluate their service against the NICE guidelines and the national service framework for long-term neurological conditions.

Participants will also be able to compare their Parkinson’s service to others around the UK, highlight strengths and weaknesses in current service provision and develop an action plan to make any improvements.

Meanwhile, the results of the 2011 audit, the first to involve physiotherapy services, are due to be published in a report next month.

Parkinson’s UK is currently collating the final information submitted by the 61 trusts and the 1,207 physio patients that took part.
