The tool – known as EQ-5D-5L – could help them to demonstrate how effective their services were, CSP professional adviser Steve Tolan told the CSP’s Physiotherapy 2012 conference on 13 October.
Speaking to delegates, who revealed they currently use a bewildering array of tools to measure patient outcomes, Mr Tolan said physios could expect the new toolkit to be introduced nationwide within one year or 18 months at the most.
Trusts that failed to meet Department of Health deadlines for using EQ-5D-5L were likely to be fined heavily, Mr Tolan warned.
Multidisciplinary teams should ‘get their infrastructure in order’ as soon as possible, said Mr Tolan, adding that the information gathered could be fed back to commissioners and other decision-makers.
