New £300,000 research award available

The CSP Charitable Trust is offering special research awards totalling £300,000 in 2012.

The new award is being offered in addition to the usual sum of around £200,000, which the Charitable Trust allocates to members each year in support of research projects.

Sue Rees, chair of trustees, said: ‘It is a real boost to the Charitable Trust’s activities and we are very fortunate to be able to offer this money alongside our existing award schemes this year.

’ The extra funding has been earmarked for the two topics identified by the CSP research priorities project: neurology and service delivery.

Last year Professor Nadine Foster, from the Arthritis Research UK primary care centre at Keele University, received an award of £200,000 to fund a pilot trial on self referral for patients with musculoskeletal problems.

‘CSP Charitable Trust funding is an excellent source of support for research that can make a difference to patient care and to the future of physiotherapy services,’ said Professor Foster.

‘Our study will provide much-needed data which will be used to lever significant funding for a future, main randomised trial of self referral to physiotherapy.’ Further details of the award schemes are available on the CSP website, along with details of the research priorities project and its results, at the link below.

The closing date is 2 April. For further details see page 34 or visit www.csp.org.uk/prf.
