Move for health schools drive

Physios in cities across the UK are being urged to back the CSP’s campaign to encourage children to be more physically active.

The Society will hold a series of ‘healthy schools days’ in primary schools in September in conjunction with the British Dietetic Association, as part of its forthcoming Move for Health public health campaign. A physiotherapist and a dietician will visit schools, speak to children, parents and teachers, and highlight the importance of exercise and a good diet for youngsters.

The CSP will write to primary school headteachers in the areas being targeted, and is looking for physios who may have a connection either with a primary school or a dietician to help run the sessions. Physiotherapists with no connections are still welcome, however.

A training session will be held in London and a pack provided to take into schools.

A team of physios and dieticians working in Tower Hamlets, in London’s East End, which has the third highest rate of obese reception-year children in England, is currently devising a format for the events.
