Community stroke: ‘one stop’ shop info

Physiotherapists now have easy access to a single online resource setting out models for community stroke services, thanks to a project from NHS Improvement.

The resource is based on information collected nationally by the Stroke Improvement Programme and is organised into 12 comprehensive sections.

CSP member Jan Matthew, a community stroke team project lead in Northamptonshire, was seconded as an associate to help collect and compile the information for the resource.

Ms Matthew explains that the resource allows access to information from different teams across the country, enabling comparisons of outcome measures, staffing levels and other available support.

The website also contains quality standards, updated guidelines, details of physio-specific competencies and information on commissioning and service improvement.

‘All the things you might normally search around to find are now in one easy place. It’s a one stop shop with all the information you need,’ says Ms Matthew.

The resource will be relevant to anyone wanting to set up a community stroke team, as well as rehab units and anyone involved with stroke survivors or interested in the development of new services and improved pathways.

The community stroke resource is open to ongoing input and actively encourages people to share information about their services
