Burning question

I’ve had a break from the NHS doing some locum work and now I’m returning.

Will this affect my pay increment?
Yes it can do.

Although an NHS employer has the discretion to take previous work into account it is not obliged to do so.

You can be placed back at the bottom of the relevant pay band and your increment date changed.

Pay is an issue that you should negotiate at the job interview stage.

If you are unhappy with any aspect of your contract you should raise this prior to starting work, or as soon as possible after this, preferably in writing.
