Burning question - recruitment and person specifications

I failed to get a promotion.

But I met the ‘person spec’, unlike the successful candidate – is this fair?’

While this might seem unfair it is likely to be lawful.

Legally, employers do not need to stick slavishly to the person spec or recruitment procedures.

Employees or potential employees have very few rights in the recruitment process, unless they feel they have been discriminated against on the grounds of protected characteristics such as sex, race or disability.

However, the CSP’s Employment Relations and Union Services encourages managers to follow a fair and transparent procedure and to ensure that their decisions are as objective as possible.
