Update on Paediatric Conditions: Sports Injuries and Hypermobility

This evening session, delivered by Ms Karen Daly, Consultant Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgeon, will cover a range of orthopaedic topics. The evening will open with a discussion on sports injuries common in the young, looking at basic anatomy, injury patterns, rehabilitation as well as the management of growth plate injuries.

In the second half of this evening course, we shall consider the evidence for the diagnosis of hypermobility syndrome as a unified condition. It will enable practitioners to recognise a well-defined sub-group who have hypermobile joints that can be associated with other pathology which may have significant consequences and where precise diagnosis becomes important.

This talk will cover Ms Daly’s experience of this group of children over her years as a children's orthopaedic surgeon and will include observations about natural history and interventions which can be either constructive or detrimental. She will highlight other issues which are very relevant to the management of children with hyper mobile joints including psychological influences, BMI and activity levels.
