Tai Chi Exercises

This course is a one-day introductory practical workshop which teaches therapists how to integrate exercises adapted from Tai Chi into their clinical practice. The mindful exercises, which combine breathing and relaxation with slow and gentle movements, can be implemented quickly and easily with individual patients and small groups in a hospital or community setting.


The course is aimed at Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Assistants, Technical Instructors and students. It is also suitable for other health professionals such as Nurses, Exercise Instructors and Clinical Psychologists.


The aim of the course is to teach -


  • The basic principles of Tai Chi
  • The benefits of and evidence for the use of Tai Chi exercises for health and rehabilitation
  • How to adapt and integrate Tai Chi exercises into clinical practice as a tool in rehabilitation.


During the course there will be demonstration and practice of exercises aimed at improving posture and alignment, weight transfer, balance and relaxation including a discussion of specific case studies.


These effective and relaxing exercises are ideal in the rehabilitation of a wide range of conditions such as falls prevention, chronic pain, arthritis, rheumatology, neurological (M.S., Parkinson’s Disease, Head Injury, M.N.D. etc), palliative care, pulmonary and cardiac rehab, orthopaedics, mental health, vestibular rehabilitation and learning disabilities.
