Introductory Bobath Course to the Treatment and Management of Children with Cerebral Palsy

This two day course aims to provide an overview of the transdisciplinary nature of assessment and treatment within the Bobath Concept and will explore aspects such as classification of cerebral palsy and principles of treatment in a series of Tutor led treatment demonstrations. lecture and discussion.

This course is suitable for physio, occupational, speech and language therapists or doctors who work with children with cerebral palsy or who hope to work in paediatrics in the future.

Learning objectives:

  1. To familiarise therapists with the basic concepts that underpin the Bobath approach to treatment.
  2. To demonstrate the interdisciplinary nature of assessment and treatment using the Bobath approach.
  3. To discuss the implications of an understanding of child development to the treatment of cerebral palsy.
  4. To identify the features of spasticity and athetosis and demonstrate the treatment of children with these clinical features.
