Hand and Elbow Conditions: The Favourites and the Forgotten

Disorders of the elbow are less common than the rest of the upper limb. However, not all lateral sided elbow pain is ‘tennis elbow’.

In the first half of our two talks Mr Lee Van Rensburg, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon will discuss some of the most common causes of pain in the elbow, and the treatment options available to provide the best possible outcome.

Mr Van Rensburg will cover a range of elbow disorders, from the commonTennis Elbow, (Lateral Epicondylitis), Posterolateral rotatory instability (PLRI) to rarer disorders (Osteochondritis) that AHPs should be confident in recognising and diagnosing.

Hand and wrist pain is all too common, experienced by people from all backgrounds; from office workers to professional athletes, and it can point to a wide variety of aetiologies. In the second half of the evening Mr Phillip Johnston, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, will share his own diagnostic workup to better inform attendees’ diagnoses of the main conditions they are likely to see in day to day practice, and to increase awareness of the treatment pathways open to their patients.

Attendees will leave this evening event with a better understanding of the causes of various hand and wrist conditions, and learn how to spot them in a patient coming to them complaining of pain.
