Cerebral palsy evening lecture series (five) on treatment from the NDT-hybrid approach for physiotherapists.

Paediatric Physiotherapists and occupational therapists

A series of evening lectures (five) on the NDThybrid approach to the treatment and management of the child with cerebral palsy (Series One).

Delivered by: Dr Pauline Christmas PhD MSc MCSP Consultant Physiotherapist for the management of spasticity in children (CV attached).

The lecture series combines the well-established NDT/ Bobath approach with evidence-based procedures. Video-analysis and power point presentations will be used to show application of the concepts of NDT-hybrid. The lectures are designed for therapy specialists currently working with children with cerebral palsy or with an interest in this area. It is preferable to attend all lectures but each lecture can be considered as a standalone. A Certificate of attendance will be provided.

Wednesday the 7th of February 6:30-8:30.  Cerebral Palsy an overview and update.

Wednesday the 14th of February 6:30-8.30. Child development and its application to treatment of the child with cerebral palsy

Wednesday the 28th of February 6:30-8:30. Constraint induced movement therapy.

Wednesday the 7th of March 6:30-8:30. Below-knee plastering. 

Wednesday the 14th of March 6:30-8:30. Outcome measures in the treatment and management of cerebral palsy.

PROFILE:

Consultant physiotherapist for the management of spasticity in children at Birmingham Community NHS Foundation Trust.

Visiting consultant physiotherapist for the Scottish Centre for Children with Motor Impairments (SCCMI) Craighalbert Centre, Cumbernauld, Scotland,

  • Clinical specialist; sole physiotherapist to date appointed nationally within the NHS to a consultant level in paediatric neurology
  • Patient centred; physiotherapist specialising in the treatment of children with cerebral palsy, for over thirty years working in both the hospital and community setting
  • Lecturing; on behalf of the Bobath centre she has led Introductory Paediatric Bobath courses across the country on the treatment and management of cerebral palsy
  • Education; completed a PhD http://etheses.bham.ac.uk/6571/
  • University of Birmingham 2016 (degree congregation July 2016). This was based on a randomised controlled trial investigating the efficacy of constraint induced movement therapy in the pre-school child with hemiplegic cerebral palsy. Undertook a research master’s degree at the University of Birmingham in 2002 and her dissertation was based on the development of a new tool for the early identification of cerebral palsy.
  • Creative and innovative; created courses for therapists for the Treatment and Management of Children with Cerebral Palsy called Neuro-Developmental (NDT)hybrid
