Regional stewards
The National Group of Regional Stewards (NGRS) form an essential part of one of the most effective networks within the CSP: the stewards network. This page has more information about the NGRS:
What is NGRS?
The stewards within an NHS region elect a regional steward. There are currently 17 regions that are recognised by the CSP. However some regions have more than one regional steward either due to numbers of CSP members (London) or the geographical size of the region (Scotland).
The role of the NGRS/Regional Stewards contains two main elements:
- A local regional role : this involves the co-ordination of training days within the region. The passing of information to stewards and gathering the views of stewards on issues affecting CSP members in the NHS.
- A national role : the NGRS takes a position on issues affecting the CSP membership in the NHS. This position is based on the views gathered locally from members/stewards. These views are then expressed through regional steward representation on the various committees of the CSP.
NGRS and CSP committees
Regional stewards hold seats on CSP committees that have the potential to impact on the terms and condition of employment in the NHS. The main one is the Industrial Relations Committee. The NGRS also submits motions on a range of issues to the CSP’s Annual Representative Conference . We also play an active role with the Trades Union Congress (TUC) and send delegations to its various conferences.
