The CSP's Library and Information Service (LIS) exists primarily to support our members but we are also happy to help others who wish to use the library - whether prospective member, other health care professional, librarian, media worker or member of the public.

The Learning Resource Centre
Our library - known as the Learning Resource Centre (LRC) - has published materials relating to physiotherapy and rehabilitation including:- a comprehensive range of journals
- a collection of books, reports, government documents and 'grey literature'
- a good range of clinical guidelines and standards
- conference proceedings
- CSP publications
Copying Services
All library copying in the UK, including the CSP's LRC, is governed by the regulations set out in the Copyright Designs and Patents Act 1988 amended 2003.
LIS offer a photocopying service to non-members. We can copy journal articles, sections of books and reports etc but due to copyright regulations we can only make one copy of one article from a single journal issue. From books and reports the copying limit is one chapter or up to 5% of the book/report. As stated on the copyright declaration form photocopying must be for research of a non-commercial nature or for private study.
Non-member charges
- £5.00 per article/chapter held in the CSP LRC (sent by post)
- £7.50 per article/chapter held in the CSP LRC (faxed - same day service if request received before 4pm, otherwise next working day)
Visiting the LRC
The LRC collection is primarily aimed at CSP members, but the Library and Information Services team also welcomes members of the public, or other health professionals who have an interest in physiotherapy/ rehabilitation information.
All visitors require an appointment to access the LRC. This is to ensure that the LIS staff can provide the facilities you require. Appointments must be booked at least one working day in advance e.g. Monday bookings must be made by 5pm on the previous Friday. Appointments can be made by calling: +44 (0)20 7306 6666. Please indicate if you require assistance because of a disability, want to make use of the disabled access resources or if you expect to need assistance from a member of staff. (See below for details).
On arrival visitors to the LRC will be asked by reception to produce some form of identification. Valid forms of identification are: membership card, student card, library card, driving license, passport, or letter of introduction from university or business on headed paper.
Facilities for those with disabilities
These cover:- a scanner and speech synthesis system (Cicero)
- magnifier/screen reader software (ZoomText Xtra 8.0)
- screen reader software (JAWS for Windows 8.0)
- a 64 cell braille display
- a 'Big Keys' keyboard
- Smartview 8000 video magnifier for low vision
- hearing induction loop at the LRC Enquiry Desk
- The LRC is accessible to wheelchair users
Further information
LIS staff are happy to assist or advise visitors in order to enable them to effectively access the resources.
- Hours: The LRC is open Monday - Friday 9am to 5pm, closed weekends, Bank Holidays and between Christmas and New Year
- Self-service copying: a self-service copier is available. A4 size is charged at 5p per single side and 10p per double side. A3 is 10p per single side and 20p per double. Please pay staff in the centre.
- Computer access: non-members are welcome to use the LRC and the collections but there is a charge of £20.00 per day to access a computer in the LRC. Printing is charged at 5p per A4 sheet.
- Group visits: LIS staff are happy to provide tours of the LRC explaining the resources available, and pointing out key resources in your subject area of interest. Due to space limitations in the LRC, a maximum of eight people can be accommodated on any one group visit. Please book at least five working days in advance, to ensure we can accommodate you.

Health Library & Information Services Directory
The directory covers the whole of the UK and the Republic of Ireland and includes all health library and information sectors whether they are NHS, Further or Higher Education, Government, Professional Bodies, Patient Information or Voluntary Organisations.
You can find a library or information service in a number of ways - by browsing through the A to Z Browse lists for libraries and networks, by searching by library name or postcode in the centre search box, or by using the keyword search for any information (eg library name, town, county, specialisms) in the main site search on the right of the screen.
You will need to contact the library to find if you can access its resources.

NHS Choices: NHS Choices is the national public website for the NHS, having joined forces with NHS Direct in November 2008. It features information on over 750 conditions and treatments; healthy lifestyle advice and has over 30 directories of services from GPs to gyms. NHS Choices includes a link to Map of Medicine so you can see what your doctor can see. See: www.nhs.uk
NHS Evidence: NHS Evidence provides free access to clinical and non-clinical information - local, regional, national and international. Information includes evidence, guidance and Government policy. NHS staff who have an Athens account can also get free access to paid for journals. See: www.evidence.nhs.uk/
PEDro: PEDro is the Physiotherapy Evidence Database. PEDro is a free database of over 16,500 randomised trials, systematic reviews and clinical practice guidelines in physiotherapy. For each trial, review or guideline, PEDro provides the citation details, the abstract and a link to the full text, where possible. See: www.pedro.org.au
WorldCat: WorldCat connects you to the collections and services of more than 10,000 libraries worldwide and can identify the library closes to you that holds a copy of the book, DVD, CDs and articles you want, however, this does not guarantee you access to the library. See: www.worldcat.org
