Chartered Society of Physiotherapy response to emergency budget
Published: 22 Jun 2010Peter Finch, Assistant Director of Employment Relations at the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, has commented on the government's emergency budget.
Commenting on Chancellor George Osborne's emergency budget, Peter Finch, Assistant Director of Employment Relations at the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy said:'The Chancellor promised a fair deal. But in reality CSP members, along with other public sector workers, have been hit by the triple whammy of a two year pay freeze which completely undermines the role of the independent Pay Review Body, a reduction in pension benefits where the link to increasing benefits to the RPI appears to have been broken, plus an increase in VAT which will fuel rising inflation.
'Latest figures show pay rises in the public sector lag behind the private sector, and that only a fifth of private sector workers were affected by pay freezes this year. The £250 rise for the lowest paid will purchase little more each week than six good quality sausages. The proposed bank levy is due to raise £2billion, an insignificant amount given the bailout funded by UK taxpayers.'
