Staff-completed ordinal scale designed to quantify changes in gait. Scored 0-9, categorising alterations in walking abilities: e.g. 0 - asymptomatic, fully active; 4 - requires unilateral support (cane or single crutch) to walk, walks 25 feet in 20 seconds or less; 9 - restricted to wheelchair, unable to transfer self independently. - (Katz) Index of Activities of Daily Living

Patient-completed questionnaire measuring 3 categories of sickness-related behavioural dysfunction. Assesses patient-perceived experience of daily acts, feelings and attitudes, and consists of 68 statements of which respondents check only those which refer to them on a stated day. Scores recorded on a weighted scale ranging from 0-100, higher scores indicate worse dysfunction. - Abbreviated Mental State Test
Staff-completed mental test score consisting of 10 questions to test cognitive impairment in the elderly. This abbreviated version tests memory and orientation and is interviewer administered. - Aberdeen Low Back Pain Scale
Patient-completed disease-specific questionnaire. Consists of 19 questions each with between 3 and 6 possible responses. Contains questions on analgesia, aggravating factors, distribution of symptoms and the effect of pain on function. Possible scores range from 0 - 100. Can be administered by post. - Action Research Arm Test
Staff-completed measurement of arm motor function. Contains 4 domains: grasping (lifting up different size objects), gripping (holding and moving objects), pinching (picking up small objects) and gross movement (e.g. hand to mouth).
