The CSP has successfully been assessed as continuing to meet the national Investors in People (IiP) Standard.

IiP is the national standard which sets out a level of good practice for the training and development of staff, to help organisations improve performance and achieve their objectives. It recognises:

  • Commitment to developing people to achieve an organisation’s aims and objectives
  • Clarity of aims and objectives, and what people need to do to achieve them
  • Effective staff development
  • An understanding of how investment in people impacts on an organisation’s performance.

The CSP was first recognised as an Investor in People in 2002. To maintain recognition, we were required to be re-assessed after three years. The assessor visited over a two-day period in October, and met with a randomly selected sample of 25 people – a range of staff and managers, plus the previous Chair, Grahame Pope. The assessor concluded that the Society substantially exceeded the required standards and had made further significant improvements since the assessment in 2002.

She particularly commented on our improved planning systems, a greater sense of integration between the Society’s internal Functions, a very high commitment to staff learning and development, and a strong commitment to equality of opportunity, both in theory and practice. All of which contribute to the continuous improvement of the Society’s services to members. The Head of HR, Gill Byrne, said:

'I am very pleased that the CSP’s commitment to the development of our staff has, once again, been recognized as meeting the high standards set by Investors in People. Staff at the CSP work very hard to provide high levels of service to our members, and are continuously developing their skills and knowledge in order to do so. Being able to benchmark what we do against a national standard confirms that we are getting this right, while also giving us suggestions for further development, in keeping with the Standard’s emphasis on continuous improvement.'
