Preparing students for CSP membership
New guidance has been produced for HEIs to explain the CSP process for considering student membership applications that involve a confidential disclosure. It sits in parallel with guidance for students themselves and is accompanied by checklists for HEI representatives on supporting students in preparing a disclosure and supplying a letter of information that will help the CSP when it considers the disclosure. (Again, parallel checklists have been prepared for students and their referees.)
All the material (see related documents below) has been prepared with oversight from the CSP Preliminary Committee, which considers disclosures and makes decisions about individuals' eligibility for student membership, and input and feedback from physiotherapy educators and student member representatives.
While providing practical information, the guidance explains how the conditions attached to student membership fit with the CSP's status as the UK professional body for physiotherapy and how they relate to other organisations' requirements (including those of HEIs).
The CSP greatly values the support HEI representatives provide students in preparing an application for membership. It also seeks to ensure its processes complement those of individual HEIs, while serving a distinct purpose.
If you have any queries or comments on the new guidance, please contact Dr. Sally Gosling, head of the CSP quality & standards unit via email: goslings@csp.org.uk.
