How Does the Group Support Continuing Professional Development / Lifelong Learning

Website - utilises the iCSP Orthopaedic network

Regional network
There are regional groups across the UK: London, Northern and Scotland. There are also close links with Belfast. Each has a committee and a representative who actively participates in the AOCP Executive Committee. This ensures that close links are maintained across the group.

Peer support/mentorship
Members have access to local and regional committee members for advice and support. The CSP holds an up-to-date list of names and addresses of the AOCP Executive Committee.

Publications
All members are able to contribute to the magazine, to publish audits, advertise lectures, courses garner opinion from colleagues.

Conferences and study days
Events are organised regionally throughout the year and advertised via local mail out, iCSP, Frontline and the AOCP magazine. Regions offer both evening meetings and day courses

Formal courses offered/recommended
The Executive Committee supports branches to run an annual 1-2 day course, which is held by a different regional group each year. This course is aimed at physiotherapists starting to specialise in orthopaedics and those who wish to update their skills and knowledge.

How Does the Group Promote Research and Evaluation

Promoting research awareness
AOCP promotes research and the sharing of information through its regional and national networks. Examples of evidence-based guidelines are published in the AOCP magazine eg Guidelines for the management of osteo-arthritis of the knee and total knee replacements.

Research/education awards
£2,000 sponsorship is available each year to assist funding of education and research. Please see sponsorship contact details in the AOCP magazine.
